The Virtual Fest
In the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, movies, filmmakers and cinema chains have all struggled. It was previously inconceivable theatres in California and New York — hubs of the “cinematic elite” that weigh heavily on Oscar ballots — would be closed for an entire year. The challenges extended out to film festivals and this year the Denver Film Festival rose to the challenge and went virtual with a full slate of films, supplemented with three drive-in events at Red Rocks.
Nomadland takes a seemingly very simple idea and turns it into something much more complex and rewarding.
